KNUST and University of Rwanda express partnership for collective growth

The delegation from the University of Rwanda have expressed their satisfaction with the operations, institutional structures and units of the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program running at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Ghana. This comes after the delegation embarked on an experiential visit to KNUST to collaborate and observe how the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program has been running. The visit began with a courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor of KNUST, Professor Mrs. Rita Akosua Dickson, and Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ellis Owusu-Dabo, where they expressed acceptance for constructive partnership for the growth of both universities.

This was followed by presentations by the Former Dean of Students and Principal Investigator for the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program, Professor Kofi Owusu Daaku and the Deputy Programs Director of the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at the University of Rwanda, Associate Professor Ntivuguruzwa Celestine, on the overview of the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at both universities. The team toured the Mastercard Foundation Programs offices and engaged Directors of the E-Learning Centre, Data Centre, University Information Technology Services directorate, innovation centres, incubation hubs, career services centre on campus.

Dean of the Quality Assurance and Planning Office (QAPO), John Jerry Kponyo, took the delegates through the coordinating function of QAPO, between the activities of the Vice-Chancellor and the various units and departments in the University. There were presentations on Research Grant Management, with emphasis on grant sourcing and management supports, grants awards acceptance and registration, grants and research related policies by Professor Philip Antwi-Agyei. Lead for the Mastercard Foundation E-learning Initiative, Mr. Courage Julius Logah took the delegation through leveraging the usage of Information Technology in teaching and learning.

Associate Professor, Jean Claude Byungura, also leading the E-Learning initiative at the University of Rwanda revealed he will implement and seek to equipping faculty members with the skills to navigate the Learning Management System and train students to study effectively in a virtual learning environment. Executive Board Chairman of the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at KNUST, Professor William Otoo Ellis, is glad the collaboration has the capacity to enrich institutions, programs and even as far as the country.

Principal of the College of Education, University of Rwanda, Professor Nsanganwimanan Florien, lauded KNUST for its global recognition and impact stories of the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program across Africa. The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program experiential visit has wrapped up with lessons learnt from KNUST.
