College of Engineering Wins 2025 TEK Smartest Quiz at KNUST E-Learning Awareness Week
The College of Engineering has won the 2025 edition of the TEK Smartest Quiz Competition held as part of the KNUST E-Learning Awareness Week.
The quiz tested students' knowledge on information technology, digital learning tools, and e-learning strategies.
After three rounds of intense competition, the College of Engineering emerged winners with 66.1 points, beating five other colleges.
The College of Science (COS) came second with 55.5 points, and the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CoHSS) placed third with 54.7 points. Other scores were: College of Agriculture and Natural Resources (CANaRSA) – 53.8 points, College of Health Sciences (CHS) – 52.6 points, and College of Art and Built Environment (CABE) – 38.8 points.
Dr. Angelina Augustina Sylverken, a senior lecturer at the Department of Theoretical and Applied Biology and host of the quiz, congratulated the students for their performance.
“This competition shows that students are learning, not just for exams, but for the real world. We are glad to see their digital skills and how they are thinking critically about the future,” she said.
She reminded the audience that the TEK Smartest Quiz is not just for fun, but part of a larger goal to support digital transformation on campus. “This quiz is organised in partnership with the KNUST Students’ Representative Council and the KNUST E-Learning Centre. It helps show how digital learning is working and how our students are adapting to it,” she added.
The event was held under the theme “Transforming Education Through Responsible Innovation and Inclusion in the Digital Era.”
“This theme reminds us that we are not just using technology. We must also use it responsibly,” Dr. Sylverken told the crowd.
Throughout the event, the contestants used digital tools like laptops to respond to questions on artificial intelligence, online assessment systems, learning platforms, and e-learning history at KNUST.
The competition aimed to test how well students understand and apply digital tools in education. “Students must know how to use technology for their benefit. This is why we do this quiz to test that knowledge,” said a student volunteer helping with the contest.
The TEK Smartest Quiz has become a regular part of the KNUST E-Learning Awareness Week. Each year, it brings together students from the six colleges to compete in a friendly but challenging learning environment.
“This is not just about winning. It is about preparing students to be ready for the digital age,” said a representative from the E-Learning Centre.
