Pre-Conference Professional Development Workshop for KNUST E-Learning And UITS Staff
On Wednesday, July 5th, 2023, a pre-conference workshop was held at the Syndicate Room of the Amonoo-Niezer Conference Center. This professional development workshop was organized for the staff of the KNUST E-Learning Center and the University Information Technology Services (UITS) team. In his opening remarks, the Director of The KNUST E-Learning Centre, Prof. Eric Appau Asante, explained that professional development workshops are meant to help employees gain confidence in their work with more knowledge and understanding to improve their present job performance. More specifically, he indicated that the purpose of the workshop was to grab the opportunity of having the Director of Digital Innovations at Arizona State University who had arrived on Campus for the E-learning Ghana Conference with the view to learning from him and sharing with him some world best practices
The Workshop which was under the theme ‘Supporting Digital Innovations’ was thus facilitated by Dale P. Johnson, the Director of Digital Innovations at Arizona State University. Dale Johnson guided the workshop participants through a comprehensive understanding of different types of digitalization. He emphasized the importance of e-Learning and UITS staff supporting the university to leverage digital tools and technologies to enhance the accessibility, quality, inclusivity, and sustainability of education.
His delivery specifically focused on the concept of the "4 E's": enrichment, enhancement, extension, and expansion. According to Dale, these four elements represented key aspects of the digitalized learning experience. Johnson provided insightful discussions and examples related to each of these areas, helping the participants grasp the potential of digital technologies to transform education.
The pre-conference workshop successfully set the stage for a fruitful and engaging E-learning Ghana conference. It laid the foundation for further exploration and discussions regarding the digitalization of education. It also spurred higher commitments and passion to support digital innovations in the university and the country as a whole. The participants gained valuable insights into how digital tools and strategies can be utilized to improve the learning experience, making education more accessible, inclusive, and sustainable.
