KNUST E-Learning Centre Joins IPO in celebrating 20 Years of Internationalization with cultural display and food fair
The International Programmes Office (IPO) of KNUST, marked the 20th anniversary with a cultural display and food fair. The event, held at the Great Hall foyer, showcased an array of international cuisines and cultural performances, bringing out the diversity of the university's global community.
Professor Daniel Duah, Dean of the IPO, welcomed everyone to the event, noting the importance of the occasion. He encouraged attendees to enjoy the diverse meals and to experience the cultural displays throughout the event.
“Today promises to be a very interesting one. We have a range of meals and cultural performances lined up. The judges for today’s event are from China, Kuwait, and Ghana. Please avoid approaching them during the judging process.
They are here to evaluate the various presentations, and we want to ensure a fair process.” he said.
Professor Esmeralda Manful, Vice Dean of the IPO, explained the importance of appreciating and celebrating cultural diversity.
“We are here to celebrate our differences and similarities, the food and performances today proves the rich cultural tapestry of our student body. Our students, representing various nationalities, will present their cultural traditions, including music, dance, and cuisine.” she said.
The event featured cultural performances from various countries represented at KNUST.
Performers showcased traditional dances, spoken word, and music that reflected their cultural backgrounds.
The food fair featured dishes from different countries, including Germany, Gambia, Niger, Cameroon, and many others.
As part of the anniversary celebrations, attendees were encouraged to explore the various food stalls and experience the different cultural displays.
The food fair provided an opportunity for guests to taste traditional dishes from across the globe and to engage with the cultural heritage of their peers.
The session engaged participants in discussions ranging from scholarship opportunities and research collaborations to cultural exchanges and career prospects within Commonwealth member countries.
Students expressed enthusiasm about broadening their academic horizons and leveraging these opportunities to contribute meaningfully to global initiatives.
Later in the day, a podcast discussion on travel facilitation and partnership support opportunities was scheduled. This podcast is to provide information on travel facilitation, partnerships, and student and staff mobility. Professor Duah explained the importance of this discussion for the KNUST community. “The podcast will cover essential topics related to travel support and mobility.
We have invited a senior officer from the Ghana Immigration Service to address issues such as resident permit renewals and other important matters.” he explained.
The day’s activities were designed to not only celebrate the IPO’s achievements over the past two decades but also to foster a sense of community and mutual understanding among students and staff at KNUST.
As the cultural performances continued and attendees enjoyed the variety of international dishes, the 20th anniversary celebration of the International Programmes Office at KNUST proved to be a memorable and enriching experience for all involved.
