KEC Host the Executive Leadership Development short course for Senior Management and Senior Administration Offices

A six-day online course titled "A Journey to Excellent Leadership" was organized from May 9th to May 18th, 2023, by the Vice Chancellor's Office in collaboration with the Online Learning Consortium (OLC) and facilitated by the KNUST E-Learning Centre. The course aimed to equip senior management and senior administrative officers with essential knowledge and skills to excel in their leadership roles.

The course included modules focused on key aspects of executive leadership. Participants explored topics such as Managing Change, Leading Yourself, Leading Others, Managing Communication, Holistic University Administration in the 21st Century, Integrity and Confidentiality of Senior Administrative Officers, and Leading Resource Mobilization. These modules were designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of effective leadership practices.

Michael Anderson

Facilitating the course was a team of experts in the field. Mr. R. Michael Anderson, Dr. Paul Effah, Dr. Karen Pedersen, Professor Robert C. Abaidoo, and Dr. Melissa Vito brought their extensive experience and knowledge to guide participants throughout the program. During the launch of the course, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor (Mrs.) Rita Akosua Dickson, delivered a passionate address emphasizing the importance of leadership. Her speech revolved around the theme "A Journey to Excellent Leadership," highlighting the university's commitment to enhancing the leadership capacity of its staff. Prof. Dickson stressed the significance of human resources and expressed her primary focus as the university's leader: developing the staff's capacity for innovative, world-class leadership.

Throughout the six-day course, participants engaged in intensive learning and discussions, gaining valuable insights and skills to excel in their leadership roles. The module on Managing Change provided strategies and techniques for effectively leading and managing organizational change. Leading Yourself focused on developing self-awareness, personal effectiveness, and strategies for continuous self-improvement as leaders. Leading Others delved into various leadership styles, team dynamics, and effective methods for leading and motivating others. Managing Communication explored the importance of effective communication in leadership, encompassing both verbal and written skills. The module on Holistic University Administration in the 21st Century addressed the challenges and opportunities in modern university administration, adapting to the rapidly evolving 21st-century context.

Ethics and integrity were crucial aspects covered in the Integrity and Confidentiality of Senior Administrative Officers module, emphasizing the significance of ethical behavior and maintaining confidentiality in senior administrative roles. Lastly, Leading Resource Mobilization provided participants with strategies for effectively mobilizing resources, including financial, human, and technological resources, to support organizational goals. By the end of the course, participants were equipped with a comprehensive set of knowledge and skills to excel in their leadership roles. The program aimed to empower senior management and senior administrative officers, enabling them to navigate the complexities of leadership and drive positive change within their organizations. Through the collaboration between the Vice Chancellor's Office, the Online Learning Consortium (OLC), and the KNUST E-Learning Centre, this course served as a platform for continuous professional development and capacity-building in leadership. The university's commitment to enhancing leadership capacity demonstrated its dedication to fostering innovation and world-class leadership among its staff. "A Journey to Excellent Leadership" was a transformative learning experience for participants, paving the way for enhanced leadership effectiveness and a brighter future for the university and its stakeholders.
