KNUST E-Learning Centre Holds Digital Literacy Training at Obuasi Campus


The KNUST E-Learning Centre has successfully organized a training session for lecturers, teaching assistants (TAs), and first-year students at the Obuasi Campus. The training is to equip participants with skills to enhance teaching and learning in an online environment. Nana Adwoa Kwabea Baidu, Head of the Training and Research Unit, outlined the planning process for the training.

He explained that the Centre deployed 25 facilitators to ensure smooth execution. "We had to prepare facilitators for three main groups—lecturers, teaching assistants, and first-year students," he said.

For lecturers, facilitators focused on two main areas: using the Learning Management System (LMS) and item writing for online assessments. The training for TAs covered the psychology of online learning, virtual support for teaching, and video conferencing tools.

Professor Eric Appau Asante, Director of the KNUST E-Learning Centre, spoke about the importance of the training. He highlighted that the Centre aimed to provide quality facilitation to meet the needs of all participants. "We focused on making sure every group received tailored training to improve their online teaching and learning experiences," he said.

First year students trained

First-year students were trained on navigating online platforms to access course materials and participate in virtual lectures. Many students expressed their appreciation for the practical nature of the training. The KNUST E-Learning Centre continues to play a role in supporting online education at the university.
