KNUST E-Learning Centre Opens Drone Training Facility to Support Agriculture
The KNUST E-Learning Centre has named a new drone training unit after agribusiness expert Mr. Daniel Fahene Acquaye.
The Dan F. Acquaye Drone Innovation and Simulation Unit was launched during the opening of KNUST’s E-Learning Week. The unit is part of efforts to bring digital tools into agriculture and improve learning through technology.
The drone unit includes a simulation studio, display lab, and research area.
It aims to train young Ghanaians in drone operation and mapping.
These skills will help support farmers through precision farming methods, such as targeted application of fertilisers and data collection for better crop yields.
Mr. Acquaye, also an E-Learning Ambassador, said the unit will help young people to assist farmers in managing their farms more effectively.
He explained that using drones can reduce farming costs and increase crop yields.
The technology also makes it easier to monitor fields, detect diseases early, and analyse soil quality.
The new unit is expected to produce a group of young agripreneurs who will offer drone services to farmers across Ghana and other parts of West Africa.
Services such as mapping, nutrient analysis, and disease detection are becoming more important in farming, and the unit will train young people to provide these services.
Mr. Acquaye also spoke about a broader project called the Harnessing Agricultural Productivity and Prosperity for Youth (HAPPY) Program. This initiative, supported by the Mastercard Foundation and led by Agri-Impact Limited, is being implemented with several partners including the KNUST E-Learning Centre..
