KNUST E-Learning Centre welcomes National Service Persons
The KNUST E-Learning Centre has commenced its training and orientation program for the 2024/2025 national service persons. The orientation is to integrate the service personnel into the operations of the Centre, emphasise collaboration, skill development, and the importance of adaptability within a dynamic work environment.
Senior Assistant Registrar at the Centre, Christopher Addo, led the orientation session. He began by addressing the new service personnel, speaking on the importance of understanding their roles and responsibilities.
"We place you at a unit based on your skills and personality, but we also need to see how you adapt to your designated areas," he explained.
The introductory meeting allowed participants to share their names and backgrounds. Christopher mentioned the dual responsibility each service personnel holds, not only to themselves but also to their immediate supervisors and the Centre as a whole.
"If the registrar needs you, it’s important to inform your immediate boss before leaving your post," he said.
This approach promotes transparency and accountability within the organisation. The training session included discussions about teamwork and collaboration. "When we have a program, resources come from all units. We don’t segregate based on your assigned area; we work together to achieve our goals."
Director of the KNUST E-Learning Centre, Professor Eric Appau Asante, addressed the new service personnel, expressing his gratitude for their willingness to contribute to the Centre's mission. "This year will be about finding your areas of strength and further learning. Learning is a lifelong activity. Don’t sacrifice your growth for comfort."
Professor Asante reminded the new recruits that their roles are key to the Centre's mission. "Even if you find yourself in a position that wasn’t your first choice, remember that every experience contributes to your learning curve," he said.
He encouraged them to remain open to new opportunities and to embrace the challenges that come with their roles. "Be part of the solution. Don’t complain without suggesting ways to improve. We want you to feel part of the family here, and that means working together to overcome challenges."
As the orientation progressed, the importance of open communication was emphasised. The recruits were encouraged to reach out to their supervisors with any concerns. "If you have a challenge, talk to your immediate boss first. If it remains unresolved, you can go through the proper channels," Addo explained.
The facilitators shared anecdotes from their experiences, reinforcing the idea that challenges are a natural part of any workplace. "We operate in a space where rapid responses are necessary. Adaptability is key, and we want you to be part of that culture." The training also included practical sessions designed to familiarise the service personnel with the Centre's operations.
They learned about the various units within the Centre and how each contributes to the overarching goal of enhancing e-learning experiences at KNUST.
