KNUST E-Learning Centre Holds Final Staff Meeting as Outgoing Director Bids Farewell
The KNUST E-Learning Centre has held its final staff meeting for the year, a day after the formal handing-over ceremony between the outgoing Director, Professor Eric Appau Asante, and the incoming Director, Professor Emmanuel Kofi Akowuah.
The meeting marked a transition in leadership at the Centre, as staff reflected on achievements under Professor Asante and looked ahead to a new phase beginning November 1, 2025. Speaking to staff, Professor Asante highlighted the Centre’s growth in digital learning, infrastructure, and partnerships.

He noted that KNUST’s e-learning journey, once seen as a small project, had become a model of digital education excellence in Africa.
He reviewed the Centre’s progress in developing online programmes, short courses, instructional design capacity, and the establishment of multimedia and immersive learning spaces.
“We started with nothing. But today, we have built strong systems, trained instructional designers, and created opportunities that place KNUST ahead in digital learning.”

Professor Asante praised the efforts of various units within the Centre, including the instructional design team, media and support services, training and capacity building, and the team handling short courses.
He also thanked the University’s management, particularly the Vice-Chancellor, for the support that had made the Centre’s achievements possible.
During his presentation, he recounted the Centre’s partnerships with organisations such as Arizona State University, the Mastercard Foundation, and Agri Impact, which have strengthened KNUST’s role in technology-driven learning and training.

He also acknowledged the E-Learning Board, the University Library, the Institute of Distance Learning, and other internal stakeholders for their collaboration.
Professor Asante described the Centre’s vision of becoming Africa’s leader in digital education as achievable.
“Our ambition is to serve Ghana and position KNUST as a major player in digital learning across the continent.”
Staff members who spoke at the meeting expressed appreciation for Professor Asante’s leadership, describing him as approachable and committed.

They highlighted his ability to combine vision with mentorship, noting that his tenure had left a strong foundation for future innovation.
The new Director, Professor Emmanuel Kofi Akowuah, currently Head of the Department of Computer Engineering, is expected to continue the Centre’s expansion in technology-enabled learning and innovation.
Senior Assistant Registrar at the KNUST E-Learning Centre, Abigail Dzama Anderson, urged staff to extend the same level of commitment and teamwork under the new leadership. “We must stay loyal to the Centre’s mission and work together to keep moving forward,” she said.
Staff members expressed gratitude for the legacy of their outgoing Director and hopeful for the next phase of the KNUST E-Learning Centre’s growth.
The meeting, held at the Centre’s Instructional Design Unit at the Library Mall, was attended by academic and administrative staff from across the Centre’s units, including media, instructional design, training, and support services.
