KNUST E-Learning Centre Staff Meet New Director for First Time

The new Director of the KNUST E-Learning Centre, Professor Emmanuel Kofi Akowuah, has held his first official meeting with staff since assuming office on November 1, 2025.

Elearning Dr. Prof Akowua

The meeting, held at the Centre’s Instructional Design Unit, served as an introduction and listening session to engage staff and understand ongoing projects, challenges, and prospects for digital learning at the university.

Professor Akowuah, who previously headed the Department of Computer Engineering, said he was joining a team with a record of success. “I am not here to make changes, but to listen, learn, and build on the good work that has been done,” he said, stressing teamwork and open dialogue.

He acknowledged the foundation laid by outgoing Director Professor Eric Appau Asante, describing his achievements as “a model for how innovation and commitment can change learning across the university.”

Professor Akowuah urged staff to remain open-minded and continue to take ownership of the Centre’s progress.

Staff members from various units shared insights about what was working well. They highlighted successful online support systems for students, the use of the Learning Management System (VClass), podcast initiatives, and improved collaboration across units.

The media team spoke of consistent storytelling and documentation of the Centre’s milestones, while the instructional design unit pointed to its growing role in faculty training and course development. However, staff also discussed challenges.

The discussion also touched on staff development. Several staff members called for more structured and frequent training sessions. Professor Akowuah assured the team that their concerns would guide his early priorities.

He emphasised the importance of communication between units and the need to balance innovation with sustainability. “People are the heart of every system. Understanding what happens on the ground helps us plan better.” he said.

He added that he would continue consulting with his predecessor to ensure a smooth transition. “Leadership changes, but the Centre’s mission remains. You are the permanent people. The Centre’s progress depends on you,” he told staff.
