KNUST E-Learning Centre to host faculty training on online teaching skills
The KNUST E-Learning Centre is set to conduct an online training program for faculty members from October 15th to 17th , 2024 This training is designed to provide lecturers of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) with the skills to be abreast in online education.
The training will be delivered via zoom and will have two daily sessions in the morning and afternoon Faculty members will be trained at a pace that suits their schedules.
The program is structured into three modules, Online Pedagogy, Course Content Creation, and Quality Matters in Online Course Design.
The role of KNUST E-Learning Centre
The KNUST E-Learning Centre has been promoting and supporting online education within the university. This training is part of its effort to enhance teaching of KNUST faculty members. The centre integrates technology into education to make the university's academics competitive digitally
Training overview
Online Pedagogy: This module will introduce participants to the concepts of online teaching. Faculty members will learn to transition from face to face instruction to online. The focus will be on understanding the differences between the two modes, applying learning theories, and developing course outlines that show best practices in online pedagogy.
Course Content Creation: In this module, participants will explore the creation of engaging and accessible course content. Lecturers will learn to utilise multimedia tools to cater for diverse learning styles.
They will ensure their content is comprehensive and inclusive. The module will also cover the organisation and structuring of course materials to improve learner engagement.
Quality Matters in Online Course Design: The final module will introduce faculty members to the Quality Matters framework. This is a recognized standard for online and hybrid course design. This module will guide lecturers on how to ensure their courses meet the highest standards of quality.
Impact and expected outcomes
The training is expected to have an impact on the faculty at KNUST. At the end of the program, participants will understand how to design and deliver high quality online courses.
They will be able to create engaging course content. They will ensure that all students, regardless of their learning preferences, have a productive learning experience. Lecturers will be provided with the skills to regularly assess and improve their courses.
