KNUST Faculty Members complete training on item writing and navigating the new LMS Interface
Faculty members at KNUST have completed a two-day training program on navigating the new KNUST Learning Management System (LMS) interface and online item writing. The training, organized by the KNUST E-Learning Centre, took place across designated computer laboratories on campus, with lecturers from various colleges participating. On the first day, the focus was on introducing the new LMS interface. Facilitator Martin Annor Sefa led the session for the College of Art and Built Environment, starting with foundational functionalities of the LMS.
"For those new to the platform, this is an opportunity to learn the basics. For others, it is a chance to refresh their knowledge and explore the new tools and plugins," he explained. For the College of Science, Edem Edwin Adedze led the LMS session. He highlighted the platform's ability to track student engagement through reports on course access and assignment participation .

"These tools make it easier for lecturers to manage their courses and monitor interactions with students," he said. At the College of Engineering, Frederick Gasikah led the LMS session, emphasizing the importance of integrating teaching tools into the LMS. Similarly, Oscar Ousseni Ouedraogo facilitated the LMS session for the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, demonstrating the platform's features and functionalities.
The College of Agriculture and Natural Resources had its LMS session facilitated by Kwadwo Konadu Ampong. He mentioned how the updated tools would enhance teaching efficiency and improve student learning experiences. The second day of training focused on online item writing, with facilitators guiding participants on how to design and manage online assessments.

Dr. Henry Martin led the item writing session for the College of Art and Built Environment. He explained, "This session introduces techniques for creating effective online assessments. It includes multiple-choice, short-answer, and matching exercises. These tools help streamline the process and ensure consistency in assessments." For the College of Science, Dr. Rhydal Esi Eghan and Dr. Reindorf Nartey Borkor facilitated the item writing session, showing participants how to structure and upload questions.

At the College of Engineering, Joy Zialesi Atokple guided faculty members through the item writing process, while Miss Eghan Evander Nana Bosomefi led the session for the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. The training also addressed challenges lecturers might face in online teaching and assessments. Facilitators demonstrated practical approaches to encourage student engagement on the LMS, such as using short, interactive video lectures and other engaging course materials.
The Pro Vice-Chancellor, Professor David Asamoah, addressed the participants and commended their dedication to the training. "This program equips you with the tools to enhance both teaching and assessment. We appreciate your efforts and remain committed to supporting you in this journey," he said. Throughout the training, support teams worked behind the scenes to ensure a smooth experience.

These included logistics coordinators like Eunice Fosu Gyebi and Nana Adwoa Baidu, as well as technical assistants such as Hilda Asare and Theophilus Abaka-Aggrey. Mona Lisa Frimpong, a coordinator for the training, encouraged faculty members to share their feedback. "Your feedback will help us improve future sessions and tailor the training to meet your needs. We value your input and look forward to hearing your thoughts," she said.
