KNUST Office Cleaners Trained on Basic Educational Technology Care

Office cleaners at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology have been trained on cleaning and maintaining educational technological devices in the office space. The training was organized by the E-Learning Centre of the University.

It is to ensure operational capability by maintaining good cleaning standards and reduce the risk of physical harm that comes with improper handling of technical equipment.

Electronic devices are often the least thought of aspects of the office when it comes to cleaning.

Besides tables and chairs, electronic devices such as laptops and desktops often go unnoticed in the regular cleaning routines.

However, their significance in daily operations cannot be overstated. Principal ICT Officer at the User Support Services of KNUST, Richard Kwasi Oppong Baah, gave a lecture on the hazards in cleaning office technology devices.

He advised appropriate personal protective equipment like gloves, goggles, uniform and safety shoes be worn during working hours, and electronic devices turned off at the power source when cleaning.

In the office environment, dust and debris often accumulate on electronic devices.

The build-up of dust and debris can lead to overheating, reduced productivity and performance, and even system failures over a long period of time.
