E-Counselling

E-counselling Podcast
The E-Learning Centre's podcast studio at the Evans Anfom Auditorium hosted its first live podcast E-Counselling event on Thursday, January 27, 2023. There were five participants: Mrs. Joan Soribang, a counselling psychologist counsellor from the college of humanities and Social Sciences; Mr. Rabbi Darko, a clinical psychologist lead from the Psychologist unit, KCC; Ms. Akua Afriyie Addae, a clinical psychologist counsellor from the college of agriculture and natural resources, Ms. Magdalene Mawugbe, the sign language interpreter and Mr. Clinton Yeboah. The meeting began at 4:15 pm and lasted until 5pm. “My Campus Counsellor” was the session's theme. A brief synopsis of what a counsellor is, what he does, and the significance of a counsellor was conveyed. The goal of counselling, according to Ms. Akua Afriyie Addae, is to bring about enhancements in one's life. According to her, counsellors foster an emotionally secure environment where people, particularly students, can go about their daily lives without interruption. The session covered issues including: Who can offer counselling services, Why do students require counselling, and Is stress a normal part of life? They discussed normalcy, self-esteem, the decision to commit suicide, personal relationships, sexual lifestyles, and despair. Mr. Rabbi Darko gave an explanation regarding time management. He discussed the importance of balancing students' emotional, social, spiritual, and mental lives. All they require, he claimed, is balance in everything they do. He suggested that students make a to-do list so that their daily activities wouldn't collide. Additionally, Mrs. Joan Soribang discussed how the students adjust to their new surroundings. She also discussed the causes of depression, described some of depression's symptoms, and discussed the need for effective communication. The audience were given the opportunity to ask questions after the session. They were encouraged to ask any questions about the topics that were discussed. The audience's understanding was strengthened by the question-and-answer session. Assumptions and prejudices are also made obvious through questions and responses. The podcast was a hit because the listeners gained fresh perspectives they may use in their everyday lives.
