Starting January 2025, Local Universities to Take Full Control of eVBAB Learning Centers

From January 2025, local universities, including Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, will take full control of eVBAB learning centers under the eVBAB Network Project. This was announced during a review meeting led by the Director of the KNUST E-Learning Centre and Project Coordinator of eVBAB Ghana, Prof. Eric Appau Asante.

The meeting was to assess the progress of the project and map out plans for its future. Prof. Asante explained that handing over the management of learning centers to local universities would promote ownership and sustainability. This decision marks a step toward building stronger local systems to support digital education in Africa. Prof. Asante shared the project’s impact so far.

He highlighted that although not all students use the physical learning centers, many take advantage of the flexibility offered by the project to access courses on their personal devices. He mentioned the importance of facilitators’ involvement, which has played a role in ensuring students remain engaged with their studies. The meeting also provided updates on the achievements of the first cohort of students enrolled in the program. According to Prof. Asante, over 60% of the first group of students have successfully completed their courses.

He reaffirmed KNUST’s commitment to supporting the remaining students to ensure they also complete their programs. Mentorship and academic guidance remain important to this effort, he noted. In addition to these updates, the meeting showed ways to improve the experience for students still in the program. Discussions included conducting a mid-course assessment to track student progress and address challenges.

The team also looked into streamlining the process of issuing certificates to students who successfully complete their programs. Prof. Asante mentioned the need for continuous support for both students and facilitators to sustain the success of the eVBAB Network Project. He pointed out that this will require universities to manage the centers but also provide additional resources to enhance learning outcomes.

Mr. Anderson Michael Kwasi, Administrator of the KNUST E-Learning Centre and Project Administrator for eVBAB at KNUST, also participated in the review meeting. He provided updates on administrative processes.
