KAIPTC team tours KNUST E-Learning Centre to explore partnership


A team from the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC) has visited the KNUST E-Learning Centre for a two-day study tour. 

The visit was to learn from KNUST’s best practices in digital education and explore opportunities for partnership and collaboration.

The KAIPTC team was led by Dr. Ferdinand Kwaku Danso, Dean of Academic Affairs. 

He was joined by Miss Irene Elorm Hatsu Fiebor Senior E-Learning Officer; Mr. Philip Makafui Ankah, Senior Assistant Registrar; Mr. Stephen Ekow Yeboah, Acting Head of IT; and Miss Bernice Christabel Cobbinah, E-Learning Multimedia Designer.

On the first day, Professor Eric Appau Asante, Director of the KNUST E-Learning Centre. 

He gave an overview of the Centre’s work and stressed the need for partnerships to strengthen digital education.

The team received a presentation on the structure for running fully online programmes. 

This was done by Mrs. Anita Afrakoma Banafo, Head of the Online Programmes Unit. 

She explained how KNUST started its online programmes and how they are managed.

The team was then taken on a tour of the KNUST Data Centre and the E-Learning Studios. 

These facilities support the university’s digital learning system. Later, Nana Adwoa Kwabea Baidu, Head of the Training Unit, gave a presentation on faculty training and capacity building. 

She explained how the Centre trains lecturers and other staff to use digital platforms for teaching and learning.

On the second day, there was a recap of the first day’s activities, followed by discussions. 

Professor Eric Appau Asante led a session on policies and quality assurance in virtual learning. He shared how KNUST ensures high standards in online teaching and learning. 

Mrs. Hilda Asare, Head of the Service Support Unit, gave a presentation on student engagement and support strategies.

She explained how the Centre assists students with technical issues and helps them succeed in online learning.

The visit ended with a guided tour of the Virtual Reality Studios at the E-Learning Centre.

The team explored how virtual reality is used to improve teaching and learning.
