KNUST signs MoU with SBTS Group and PeaceInvest to support human capital development
The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with SBTS Group LLC and PeaceInvest Ltd. to support a new programme that will train students and faculty in skills related to the digital economy.
The signing ceremony took place at the International Programmes Office (IPO) on the KNUST campus.
The MoU was signed by Evelyn Lewis, Chief Executive Officer of SBTS Group, who was present in person.
Scott Weber, President and CEO of PeaceInvest, joined the event online.
The Dean of the IPO, Professor Daniel Duah, hosted the event and led the formal engagement.
Professor Eric Appau Asante, Director of the KNUST E-Learning Centre, was also present at the signing.
The agreement sets out a plan to build a new model for human capital development in Ghana, with a focus on training, job placement, research, innovation, and certification.
The areas of cooperation will support students and faculty in Business Process Outsourcing (BPO), Cybersecurity, and Artificial Intelligence (AI).
As part of the agreement, KNUST will host training programmes under the Intelligent Capacity Building Model (ICBM), developed by SBTS.
These training sessions will be aligned with global industry standards and will result in certification for participants.
The partnership will also support the creation of training spaces on campus, including BPO service delivery centres and a Security Operations Center (SOC).
The centres will allow students to gain hands-on experience and prepare for jobs in the digital economy.
The KNUST E-Learning Centre, led by Professor Eric Appau Asante, will serve as the main support unit for the implementation of the training programme.
The Centre will provide digital infrastructure and access to online learning tools and will help integrate the training into relevant university courses.
The MoU also includes plans to train KNUST faculty in ICBM methods. Selected lecturers will receive certification and will deliver the programme content.
This will help ensure the continuity of the training model within the university.
In addition to classroom-based learning, the programme will give KNUST students access to internships and job placement opportunities through the SBTS global network. Students who complete the training will be linked to companies in Ghana and abroad, offering a pathway into employment.
The MoU outlines joint research activities to explore Ghana-specific use cases in the digital economy.
This includes case studies, innovation challenges, and hackathons involving students and faculty.
The results of the research will help improve the programme and make it more relevant to local needs.
KNUST will now begin preparations for the implementation phase of the project, with support from SBTS and PeaceInvest.
The university’s technical and academic teams are expected to begin work with the project leads in the coming months.
