KNUST E‑Learning Centre to Power New German Language Programme with CELFI

The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology is partnering with the Center for Education, Languages and Foreign Integration (CELFI) to launch a German language programme.

The programme is designed as 80% online and 20% in-person, targeting both students and faculty at KNUST.

The CELFI delegation visited the KNUST E‑Learning Centre.

They toured the studios, training rooms, and digital spaces.

Dr. Manfred Niedermeyer, Director of CELFI, said “The project seeks to introduce, promote, and enhance German language capabilities of our course participants and faculty to prepare them for global opportunities. We will deliver most sessions online, with some in-person classes to reinforce learning. We also plan exchange trips so learners can live the language and culture firsthand.”

Professor Eric Asante Appau, Director of the KNUST E‑Learning Centre, explained how the centre supports blended models of online and in-person training.

“Our infrastructure can support online lessons, live interaction, and digital tools to track progress. We are ready to host the online sessions and support faculty training.”

Other team members present included David Twumasi-Ankrah, Senior Assistant Registrar, and Elizabeth Opoku Awuah from the Obuasi Campus.

The new programme aligns with KNUST’s push to strengthen its global links.

Through previous partnerships with German institutions like the Technical University of Munich, KNUST has built strong foundations in language and cultural exchange. The blended German programme aims to build on these ties.

With this programme, KNUST hopes to boost global opportunities for students and staff. German language skills can open doors in research, internships, and jobs across Europe.

Plans are now moving forward to finalise the roadmap and begin classes. Registration information and course schedules are expected soon.
