Building skills and futures: KNUST E-Learning Centre bids farewell to 2024/2025 Service Personnel

The KNUST E-Learning Centre has urged its outgoing National Service Personnel to build skills, stay curious, and prepare for opportunities beyond their service year. Speaking at the send-off gathering, Professor Eric Appau Asante, Director of the E-Learning Centre, reminded the personnel that the one-year service period was “a transition and a capacity-building season.”

“You were here to learn, to grow, and to prepare yourself for the next step. When opportunities come, be ready. Learning does not stop here. Build capacity, learn a skill, and make sure you are better than when you first came.”

He also encouraged the group to look after their health and develop good work habits. “Exercise, eat well, be time-conscious, and network.

These habits will carry you into the next stage,” he advised. James Kwasi Aguze, Creative Director of The Touch Media and an alumnus of the Centre’s service program, reflected on how his year of service had shaped him.

“Nine years ago, I was in your shoes. I learned teamwork, problem-solving, and how to meet deadlines even under pressure. These skills helped me start my own business and work with different clients.”

Jonathan Ativor, a former Senior ICT Assistant at the Centre who is now pursuing further studies in the United States, encouraged the group to consider education as a way of shaping their future. “Further studies is about going back to school and about discipline and planning for the next three to five years.

There are free online courses, distance programs, and professional certifications you can take to stay relevant.” Joseph Robert Amponsah, Senior ICT Assistant at the Centre, shared his experience of finishing service over a decade ago and called on the group to take charge of their future. “Companies are looking for skills, not just certificates.

Learn something useful, attend conferences, and network with people. When the opportunity meets you, be ready.” The session ended with expressions of gratitude from the personnel, who thanked staff of the Centre for the exposure, mentorship, and skills they had gained.
