KNUST E-Learning Centre, CCBI Explore Ways to Enhance Technology-Driven Short Courses
The KNUST E-Learning Centre has met the Centre for Capacity Building and Innovation (CCBI) to discuss how to enhance delivery of the university’s professional short courses using technology.
The meeting was on using e-learning tools to support and expand flexible training options for students, workers, industry, and professionals beyond the campus environment.

The Centre for Capacity Building and Innovation is mandated by KNUST to coordinate and run specialised, demand-driven short courses for workers and professionals.
Director of the E-Learning Centre, Prof Emmanuel Kofi Akowuah, said the approach aligns with the university’s goal of opening up education for people who cannot attend in-person sessions. “We want learning that meets people wherever they are. If skills are needed in the field, then training must reach the field.
Our tools allow that.” He outlined the Centre’s capability to support digital course delivery, including instructional design, multimedia content production, online learner support, and digital assessment.

“These short courses are already relevant to national needs. The next stage is making them accessible at scale.” he said. Coordinator of CCBI, Dr Yaw Amo Sarpong, said the Centre’s clients rely on programmes they can pursue alongside work responsibilities.
“Our courses are designed for people who prefer flexible learning alongside their work routine. Flexible delivery is essential for them to take part and complete.” he said.
He added that demand for upskilling continues to grow, driven by industry changes and certification needs. They agreed that technology-enabled delivery would make it easier to respond quickly.
Government agencies, private institutions and professional bodies can benefit from continuous professional development delivered through flexible technology-based models by the KNUST E-Learning Centre and the Centre for Capacity Building and Innovation.
Digital examination tools, including secure online proctoring for recruitment and certification, can also be provided when required.
