KNUST E-Learning Centre to Train Faculty of Built Environment on Digital Teaching and Item Writing
The KNUST E-Learning Centre is considering an intensive faculty training session for lecturers in the Faculty of Built Environment. The initiative is to enhance digital teaching skills and equip faculty members with the necessary tools to deliver online and blended courses.
The training, once implemented, will cover topics such as instructional design, student engagement strategies, and the integration of e-learning platforms.
Facilitators will lead interactive demonstrations, ensuring that participants gain hands-on experience with the various digital tools available to them. Dr. Eric Appau Asante, Head of the KNUST E-Learning Centre, emphasized the importance of this training in aligning teaching methods with global digital education standards.
"Technology is reshaping education, and as a university, we must ensure that our faculty members are well-equipped to deliver quality online learning experiences," he said. Other key members of the E-Learning Centre, including instructional designers, technicians , and trainers, will play critical roles in ensuring the success of the initiative.
They will provide faculty members with practical insights into designing interactive online courses, managing virtual classrooms, and assessing student performance effectively in a digital environment. The faculty members of the Built Environment have expressed keen interest in the training.
They recognize the increasing need for digital skills in education and how these competencies will help them reach a broader student audience. A senior lecturer from the department shared, "We see this as a timely intervention.
Online learning is here to stay, and as educators, we need to adapt." Abigail, the Registrar of the E-Learning Centre, also acknowledged the institution’s role in ensuring a smooth transition to digital learning methods. She highlighted the importance of institutional support in fostering an environment where lecturers can continuously improve their digital competencies.
Participants from previous faculty training programs at KNUST have attested to the impact of such initiatives. "The training we received from the E-Learning Centre last year significantly improved our approach to online teaching.
We are confident this new session for the Faculty of Built Environment will be just as impactful," a faculty member remarked. KNUST’s commitment to digital transformation is evident through its ongoing efforts to integrate e-learning across various faculties.
The E-Learning Centre continues to lead these efforts by providing cutting-edge training and resources for faculty and students alike. As discussions continue on implementing the training for the Faculty of Built Environment, faculty members are hopeful that it will equip them with the skills needed to effectively engage students in the digital space.
The university’s broader goal remains the advancement of technology-enhanced education, ensuring that KNUST remains at the forefront of digital learning in Ghana and beyond.
