KNUST E-Learning Centre leads engagement with course representatives on digital learning tools

The KNUST E-Learning Centre, KNUST Artificial Intelligence Courses Coordinating Office, and the Directorate of Student Affairs met course representatives across the University to discuss student academic and professional success.

This meeting, organised by the KNUST SRC, provided course reps with the opportunity to interact with the University's relevant offices to support their academic and professional success.

The Director of the KNUST E-Learning Centre, Prof. Emmanuel Kofi Akowuah, was joined by Prof. Eric Appau Asante, Head of the University’s AI Courses Coordinating Office, and Prof. Akwasi Acheampong Aning, Deputy Director of Student Affairs.

The Deputy Director for DOSA, Prof. Akwasi Acheampong Aning, took students through student conduct and academic integrity as enshrined in the student handbook. He was followed by Prof. Eric Appau Asante, who explained the rationale for the University-wide AI course and addressed questions from the student leaders.

Prof. Emmanuel Kofi Akowuah, the Director of the KNUST E-Learning Centre, spoke about the Centre's role in students' academic and professional development. He began with the self-paced course “Fundamentals of Online Learning,” designed to equip students with the digital skills needed for online learning success. He further explained the relevance of acquiring digital skills for the professional workplace and urged students to take the course, although not mandatory, to enhance their employability, as it awards a certificate of competency in relevant digital skills.

He also highlighted the effective use of the tools and opportunities provided by the University, including free access to Microsoft 365. He implored students to take advantage of this opportunity and utilise these world-class tools for collaborative online learning, strengthening their proficiency in using them

Prof. Akowuah then provided a brief overview of the E-Learning Centre and its units, inviting students to collaborate with the Centre to achieve the objective of student-centred online learning.  He indicated that some innovations at the Centre were co-developed with students and encouraged more students to take advantage of these opportunities, including volunteering and internships, to sharpen their skills.

He also gave hints about the establishment of an upcoming EdTech Innovation Lab within the Centre, encouraging students to take advantage of it to hone their skills.

The session ended with an announcement on the upcoming E-Learning Week and E-Learning International Conference, which will provide students the opportunity to showcase their innovations in E-Learning and engage further with stakeholders in the E-Learning ecosystem. Prof. Akowuah concluded by admonishing students to follow the Centre's respective digital channels to stay abreast of its developments and operations.
