KNUST School of Public Health empowered to navigate virtual classroom platform

Faculty members from the School of Public Health at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology have benefitted from a training by the E-Learning Centre on the usage of the virtual classroom platform.

The training is meant to equip them with knowledge to set assignments on the Learning Management System. It also feeds into efforts to manage the growing class sizes and go paperless in the execution of academic work.

The training had both practical and theoretical aspects. Facilitator, Mr. Ebo Arthur explained to participants the Learning Management System (LMS), its security features, authentication among others which are the theoretical aspect of the virtual class.

The hand-on session began with participants learning how to log into and decorate the v-class.

“The concept of the Learning Management System is to mimic the traditional way of teaching and learning. You cannot put the gestures inside the LMS, but you can create something that will be more interactive. You mount a picture to speak more about the course,” Ebo Arthur said.

Participants were guided to set up units and folders where they will put their slides and videos, set up assignments, its duration and cut off.

A discussion chat popularly referred to as ‘forum’ on the learning management system was developed individually. A feedback survey was created for the lecturers after the training.
